THE FLYING FLEECE IS A TRADITIONAL BRITISH PUB LOCATED IN THE PICTURESQUE TOWN OF AMBLESIDE

The Flying Fleece is a traditional family friendly Lakeland pub, offering fantastic seasonal food, made using only the finest freshest locally sourced ingredients.

We also serve a fantastic selection of local real ales, fine wines from around the world, and a selection of premium lagers and ciders. Enjoy a drink and a meal outside on our beautiful terrace, lined with pretty flowers and looking on to famous historic Bridge House, which stands over Stock Beck.

No matter if you want to enjoy a pint of ale by the real fire or sit down with your children for a delicious pub meal, you’re guaranteed to feel comfortable during your visit.

We’re lucky enough to be positioned close to several popular walking routes, making us the perfect place to fuel up before a hike or to rest up after a hard days trekking in the Lake District fells. We welcome dogs into our bar area and have dedicated taps and bowls outside where they can enjoy a refreshing drink.

We also have a deliciously tempting children’s menu with colouring activities to keep your little ones busy.

So whether you’re stopping in for a pint or enjoying a three-course meal with your family, The Flying Fleece in Ambleside is your number one choice for a true British pub experience.

Our historic mill building has recently been refurbished and the interiors have been designed to create a relaxing and cosy atmosphere that retains that recognisable traditional British pub feel.

Welcome to the Flying Fleece!

Situated in the heart of The Lake District and the tourist hotspot of Ambleside, you’ll find a cosy, relaxed & welcoming atmosphere. The perfect place to enjoy good quality, freshly made food, all at a reasonable price, & an extensive range of local cask ales.

About Our Name

Our pub is a cleverly restored Grade II building dating from the 15th Century that once operated as a fulling mill – hence our quirky name ‘The Flying Fleece’ which links to the heritage of our unique Lakeland building.

The working weir, millrace, wheel and various pieces of machinery are carefully retained and can still be admired.
